Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine
(CAIQ) is a national scientific research body for social benefits, which was established on the basis of two former institutes, namely, China Import and Export Commodity Inspection Technology Institute and Animal and Plant Quarantine Institute of General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) in 2004 with approval of the State Council. The task of CAIQ is mainly research on application of science and technology in inspection and quarantine, as well as relevant basic, high-tech and soft science research, focusing on solving general, comprehensive, key, outburst and basic scientific problems, and providing technical supports to the policy-making of inspection and quarantine for the national government.

CAIQ has five research institutes: Institute of Food Safety, Institute of Animal and Plant Quarantine, Institute of Health Quarantine, Institute of Industrial Product Inspection, Institute of Inspection Technology and Equipment, and five internal functional departments: General Office, Department of Supervision on Science and Technology (Information and Specimen Collection), Department of Human Resources, Department of Finance and Office of Communist Party Committee.

CAIQ has buildings of 20689 m2 with more than 600 sets of apparatus valued RMB 118 million Yuan, and nearly 400 staffs, including 7 professors, 50 associate professors and 30 Ph.D. holders. A postdoctoral working station has been set up in CAIQ.

CAIQ offers professional service in fields food safety, molecular biology, animal and plant quarantine, epidemics, microbiology, GMO, textile and light industrial products safety inspection, hazardous and raw materials safety assessment and detection etc. CAIQ is powerful in research and inspection techniques on food, agriculture and livestock products, plant quarantine, chemical and mineral products, GMO food and hygiene quarantine.

CAIQ owns a high-tech enterprise group named Land Bridge Group, which is engaged in the conversion, exploitation, trade and marketing of research achievements. Land Bridge Group has several enterprises, namely Beijing Land Bridge Technical Co. Ltd., Beijing Land Bridge Science & Technology Development Company, Beijing Land Bridge Quality Inspection Certification Center, Sanhe Zhijian Printing Co. Ltd., Land Bridge Printing and Package Co. Ltd., Beijing Land Bridge Comprehensive Service Company, and Beijing Kaipuke Technical Exploitation Company etc.

CAIQ undertakes some of the technical service of AQSIQ, including AQSIQ Food Safety Research Center, AQSIQ Verification Office for Import & Export Cosmetic Labeling, Secretariat of China Animal and Plant Quarantine Risk Analysis Council and Secretariat of China Plant Quarantine Standardization Committee.
